In addition to loading a roast reference underlay from the the sidebar in the roasting application, there are some shortcuts that may be helpful.
Launch from the Portal (Deep Linking):
From the RoastPATH Portal. Review a Profile or a Path you would like to use as an underlay. The review screen will show you the roast curve and all associated information about the Profile or Path. In the top right corner, click the “More Actions” button and select “Open in App” from the drop down. This will launch the RoastPATH Roasting App on your computer. A prompt will appear at the top of the app, indicating the app has received a request to begin roasting with a roast reference. Clicking continue will open the roasting interface and load the Path or Profile as an underlay. The resulting roasting experience will be identical to opening the roast reference from the sidebar in the application. Launching an application on your computer by clicking a link on a web page is referred to as “Deep Linking”. You may hear this term or see it referenced in videos, blog posts or in conversations on the RoastPATH Community Forums.
Reroast from the App:
Within the RoastPATH Roasting App, view the Recent Profiles list. You can navigate to the Recent Profiles list using the main menu in the top left of the screen. From the list select the profile you would like to use as a roast reference underlay. The review screen for that profile will open, allowing you to view all the details of this previous roast. A “REROAST” button is available in the top left corner of the screen. Clicking this button will open the roasting screen and load this profile as an underlay. The resulting roasting experience will be identical to opening the roast reference from the sidebar in the application.
Use a local .rpath or .alog File:
If you have downloaded a profile from the RoastPATH portal, or received a path file from a friend, you can double click on that file to launch the RoastPATH Roasting App. You will see a similar prompt to the “deep linking” request to continue to load the roast reference. This ability to load a file is convenient, but comes with some limitations. Loading a roast reference from your computer means the resulting profile you record will not have a connection to a Path or a Profile stored on the servers. Therefore, if you return to the profile to review your roast, the reference roast curve will not be visible. It will not be possible to review the roast to see how closely you followed the underlay that was used during the roast. This can be an important limitation if your quality control steps find a defect in the roasted coffee and you would like to review the roast curve to see what was different. Additionally, Roast Replay is not supported from files loaded locally from your computer.
A major advantage to using an .rpath file stored on your computer is for offline roasting. In the situation where you are experiencing an internet outage and need to temporarily work offline, an .rpath file can save your day. Users should consider downloading copies of their production roast profiles in the event of an internet outage.
