Some users may never add a Path to their Path Library. That is fine. Users may opt to only use roast reference underlays from their existing Profiles (roast history).
Paths are not connected to your roasting history. You can add, delete or modify a Path and it will not affect the reporting on how much coffee you produced during the week. However, changing the coffee on a Profile will change your production reporting.
Paths allow you to take any roast curve from any source and “tag” that Path for a specific coffee, machine, and batch size. Don’t want to pick a specific coffee? You can assign the Path to a country and processing method. For example, you may have a Path you use as the starting point for every new Natural Ethiopian coffee you purchase. Tagging your Paths can make filtering your Path Library quick and easy when looking for the best roast reference underlay.
Here are some possible reasons you may want to use the PATH Library to store roast reference underlays:
- You have a new green and want to use a friend's .rpath or .alog file as a roast reference underlay to get started in developing your favorite profile.
- You found a public profile on the RoastPATH Community Profile Library and want to try roasting coffee a new way.
- You used Path Intelligence™ to generate a curve for one of your greens that you want to take darker or lighter than you have attempted before.
- You prefer looking through a smaller list of Paths you created, rather than your entire roast history when selecting a roast reference to follow.
- You have a naming convention you use for your Roast Profiles that you cannot break because it is part of your process, such as “Customer - OrderNumber - Batch Number”, but you want to create a path with a new name such as “Brazil Drip - Medium” so that it is easy to locate.
- Using the Path Library with process driven naming and filter tags can improve communication when multiple users are roasting, and can simplify training for new users.
Not all Paths are created equal. Depending on the source, paths will have varying amounts of included data.
